New Yars missile test launch from Plesetsk

The multiple warheads missile will be the backbone of Russia’s mobile intercontinental missile force.

The warheads, unknown how many, reached their predetermined targets at the Kura testing range on Kamchatka in Russia’s Far East. The flight takes slightly less than 20 minutes, from Plesetsk in Arkhangelsk region to the opposite side of Russia.

Defence Ministry in Moscow confirms the launch that blasted off at 14. 30 on Wednesday.

“The goals of the launch have been achieved, the tasks assigned are fulfilled,” a statement from the Ministry reads.

Yars missile, also known as the RS-24 has boosted Russia’s penetration capability against a possible U.S. anti-missile defence system. The missile can carry at least four nuclear warheads, each with 150 to 250 kilotons.
