Aker Solutions to Tromsø

Will establish an engineering hub with 2-300 employees as the chase for oil and gas moves into the Arctic.

The oil service company provides engineering, product solutions and field-life support for the oil and gas industry globally. When now establishing their northern hub in Tromsø, the company wants a share of the pie as Arctic oil and gas exploration is expected to boom in the years to come.

- We believe in the reserves potential on the Norwegian continental shelf and in the Arctic. If the marked continues to develop positively and we are successful in our efforts to win work with customers in the region, we believe that we will have a substantial engineering hub in the North with 2-300 employees in three to five years, says executive chairman of Aker Solutions, Øyvind Eriksen.

Within some three to five years, Aker Solution believes they will have up to 300 employees at the Tromsø office.

The establishment of the Tromsø office is part of Aker Solutions’ overall strategy to increase the company’s footprint in the northern regions of Norway, driven by an increasing number of interesting field development opportunities offshore northern Norway and in the Barents Sea, the company writes in a press-release.

In January, BarentsObserver reported that Aker Solution intends to build underwater units for the Shtokman project together with the Russian shipyard Zvezdocka in Severodvinsk near Arkhangelsk.

An investment decision for the Shtokman natural gas field in the Russian sector of the Barents Sea is expected to come within the nearest few months.

Tromsø is the largest city in northern Norway.
