Barents Investments interest Finnish companies

The Lapland Chamber of Commerce gathered over 100 participants for the first large investements seminar at Rovaniemi 18th February 2010.

The audience was interested to hear about the future investment projects on the Barents Area as well as learn from others experiences and networking.

The event was opened by Heikki Autto, Chairman of the City Council of Rovaniemi. He reminded the audience about the big Barents Euro-Arctic picture: EU’s Arctic Communiqué, upcoming Finnish Arctic Strategy and Rovaniemi’s role as the possible hometown of the future EU’s Arctic Information Centre in the Arctic Centre.

At the Arctic Business Forum, Managing Director of the Lapland Chamber of Commerce, Timo Rautajoki presented big figures of the starting investment plans in Lapland, Northern Sweden, Norway and Russia. His presentation got support from the other “Barents experienced” speakers: managing directors from Aker Arctic, Outotec Turula Oy, Ahma Insinöörit and SteelDone Group. Also main-economist Lauri Uotila from Sampo Bank Helsinki and Anatoly Glushkov, the President of the North Chamber of Commerce, Murmansk were optimistic about the future investments in the Barents area and the economy.

Next Arctic Business meeting is in Murmansk in April and is named ARCTIC BUSINESS MATCHMAKING.
