Dutch industry interested in Arkhangelsk port

Dutch enterprises show a great interests in the construction of a deep sea port in Arkhangelsk, the Dutch General Consul in Sankt Petersburg said during his yesterday’s visit to the northern Russian city.

-Close business ties with the Netherlands will allow a manifold increase of trade turnover of the port, says Consul Hoeks, Dvinaland.ru reports.

This is the third visit of Mr. Hoeks to Arkhangelsk Oblast. This time Mr. Hoeks heads the delegation of representatives of the Dutch shuipbuilding industry and navigation. Mr. Hoeks says Dutch enterprises show great interest in the construction of the deep sea port. The port is of strategic importance to the Arkhangelsk Oblast. The regional administration plans to allocate 1.8 billion RUB on its development.

The port is believed to become a vital brick in the development of the Shtokman field and other oil and gas fields in the Barents Sea. It could also become a logical continuation of the planned Belkomur railway.
