Enough jobs in the North

While central parts of Sweden face growing unemployment following the financial crisis and subsequent economic downturn, the northern parts of the country are in urgent need of more people.

Several northern municipalities, among them Kiruna, Gällivare, Pajala, Jokkmokk and Övertorneå now look towards the increasingly tight Stockholm labour market for manpower. According to newspaper Dagens Industri, the municipalities have already initiated recruitment campaigns in the capital. -We have to import labour – it is rather unusual situation for us, admits Monica Isaksson from the Kiruna employment office. The northern town rich on iron ore faces major investments both in town development and mining the next years. Also in neighbouring Pajala municipality, the need for new manpower is significant. About 5000 new jobs are required. Among the companies seeking new people are Bergteamet, Enercon, MacGregor and Utbildning Nord, DI.se reports with reference to newspaper Dagens Nyheter.
