Finnish recession looms

The Finnish economy was in a period of slow growth even before the financial crisis. Now, the country could face recession.

The crisis has pushed the country off the path of already weak growth towards harder times, Director of the Research Institute of Finnish Economy ETLA, Sixten Korkman, says to Yle. Finland will “suffer considerably from uncertainty and pessimism and from the reluctance of banks to provide credits”, the research leader maintains. “This will probably be followed by a recession in the United States, recession in Europe and very possibly recession in Finland, as well. The projections made up to now can be forgotten,” warns Korkman.
