Industrial output down 23 percent

Finnish companies in the first half of 2009 produced 23 percent less than in the same period last year.

In June, output continued to decline in all main industries, Statistics Finland informs. In the metal industry output fell by nearly 26 percent and in the forest industry by about 35 percent. In the chemical industry, output shrunk by 11 percent. In the food industry the decline was nearly one percent, the statistical service says. The year-on-year decline in June (20,3%) was still less than in May, when the total industrial production was down more than 26 percent.
