International standards for Murmansk airport
The upgrade of the Murmansk Airport to international standards is vital as the region engages in huge projects like the Shtokman development, Russian Transport Minister Igor Levitin said when arriving to the region on Friday.
Mr. Levitin arrived in Murmansk to discuss infrastructure development with regional authorities. Among the priority transport investment projects in the region is the upgrade of the Murmansk Airport.
According to the minister, the airport will this year get new asphalt on the runway and next year be extended with space for more aircrafts, a press release from the Murmansk regional administration reads. –The airport will be developed to handle all kinds of aircrafts, Minister Levitin underlined.
During his visit to the region, he also discussed the development of the Murmansk Transport Hub, a major infrastructure project meant to facilitate increased shipping and industrial activities in the area.
