Kværner looks to Murmansk
Russia’s offshore development will need concrete platforms and Kværner are now identifying locations for establishing a shipyard in Barents Russia.
- We will not own a shipyard, but want to enter a long-term lease, says Mikhail Puliaevskii, director of business development in Kværner’s concrete division, interviewed by Teknisk Ukeblad.
Puliaevskii says several locations in Northwest-Russia have been considered, but by the end of this year, three options in the Murmansk and Arkhangelsk region will be on the short-list.
Murmansk is likely the best for Kværner.
- The climate is slightly warmer, they have deep enough harbours and the infrastructure is good. It is also an advantage that Murmansk is close to Norway, says Mikhail Puliaevskii.
Kværner is already involved in Russia’s offshore petroleum industry. The company will next year deliver a concrete platform for the Sakhalin-1 project in the Russian Far East. The platform is built at the yard in Nahotsk near Vladivostok.
Kværner is one of the world’s leaders in engineering, procurement and construction with 40 years of experience in platform constructions.
