Murmansk fish industry against nationalization

The fish industry in Murmansk has addressed Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin with a protest against proposed nationalization measures in the Russian fish industry. The fishermen say the regional industry is not ready for the measure.

According to a decree from Putin and his government of late June this year, all Russian catch from the Barents Sea should be landed to Russian processing plants. The Murmansk fishermen say however that all capacities of regional processing plants, as well as freezing facilities, from before are overloaded. They now request government to adopt amendments in the decree making only fish caught in the Russian economic zone included by the new regulations. It should still be allowed to land fish caught in the Barents Sea outside the Russian economic zone in Norwegian ports, they argue.
