”MV Nordic” gets icebreaker assistance
The Danish bulk carrier ”MV Nordic Barents” today teamed up with Russia’s newest and most sophisticated icebreaker, which is to accompany the vessel across the Northern Sea Route.
The two vessels today met at an altitude of 85 degrees north and formed a caravan, TV21 reports. It is the nuclear-powered icebreaker “50 Years Victory”, which will lead the bulk carrier through the Arctic waters.
The MV Nordic is the first ever bulk carrier with a non-Russian flag using the Northern Sea Route as a transit trade lane. The ship carries iron ore from the Syd-Varanger mine in Kirkenes, northern Norway.
