Russia to boost investments in railways

A total of 14 trillion RUB (380 billion EUR) is to be invested in Russian railway development until year 2030. –We will extend the railway grid with 20,000 km, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said when signing the country’s railway strategy paper today.

-We know that we will secure this financing, the premier said when meeting with representatives of the Russian Railways today. He confirmed that parts of the new railway lines will be built to northern regions, RIA Novosti reports. The sum is “considerable”, Putin admitted, adding that almost no investments have been made in railway development the last years. The state investments in railway development could strengthen the chances of the Belkomur project, a line which is to connect Western Siberia and the Urals with the Barents Sea.
