Sevmash to construct containers for nuclear waste

The Sevmash construction plant has signed a contract for production of 20 containers for storage of spent nuclear fuel, informs the press-service of the plant.

The containers will be used for the spent nuclear fuel from the BN-350 reactor in Aktau, Kazakhstan. The programme receives financial support from the National Nuclear Security Administration (USA).

In the period 2002-2006 the Sevmash plant has produced 60 containers for spent nuclear fuel from nuclear submarines. Currently, the plant finishes the production of 50 TUK-120 containers for the Murmansk Shipping Company. The containers will be used for storage of spent nuclear fuel from atomic icebreakers.
