Statoil to double apprentices from the north

Norwegian oil major Statoil will this year recruit a record number of apprentices.

-Northern Norway and the far north are priority regions for Statoil, says Ivar Aasheim, senior vice president for Statoil’s operations north cluster, according to a press-note posted at Statoil’s web-site.

Asheim says Statoil is confident that activity in the northern areas will grow. In 2010 the company want to increase its recruitment with 25 apprentices from Norway’s three northernmost counties Nordland, Troms and Finnmark.

Melkøya LNG plant on the Finnmark Barents Sea coast is one of the facilities which this year will take on 20 new apprentices.

The Norwegian apprenticeship scheme is an education with the first two years at a vocational college of further education. After that the apprentices work for two years in a firm and receive pay.

Many get permanent jobs at Statoil once they have completed their apprenticeships.
