Gas development threatens Nenets
Development of natural gas fields on Yamal Peninsula threatens the Nenets population.
A feature article published by Reuters appeals to take into consideration the interests of indigenous people of the North in developing the natural gas fields of Yamal.
The author quotes the senior researcher of the University of Lapland professor Bruce Forbes who prepared a special report on the necessity of establishing harmonic relations between gas developing companies and the interests of the local people.
The article stressed that the compensation allocated by Gazprom for the compensation for indigenous people does not reach them getting stuck in the local government. A month ago the Russian government invited foreign companies to take part in the development of the gas fields of Yamal, which resources are estimated in 16 trillion cubic meters.
