Governor invites China to Arctic exploration
Russian and Chinese oil companies should together engage in Arctic exploration, Governor of the far northern Russian region of Yamalo-Nenets says.
-The Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug is interested in a partnership with China in the field of oil and gas production, Governor Dmitry Kobylkin said at the opening of the Russian pavilion at the World Expo 2010 Exhibition in Shanghai.
The Yamalo-Nenets AO is the first of the 83 Russian federal subjects which is presented at the Expo, a press release from the regional administration reads. The pavilion opened on May 1.
-We are ready to offer Chinese partners a mutually beneficial and constructive cooperation in fields like hydrocarbons and hard minerals, the Northern Sea Route, agriculture, innovation and science, Kobylkin said in his presentation.
Kobylkin is governor of one of Russia’s richest regions on hydrocarbons. The region today accounts for the lion’s share of Russian gas production and is the scene of Russia’s biggest ongoing gas field development project – the Bovanenkovo field in the Yamal Peninsula. The Yamalo-Nenets AO is located just east of the Ural Mountains and is formally part of Tyumen Oblast. In the north, the region borders the Kara Sea.
