More electric power for northern Norway

The Norwegian government intends to build new power transfer lines between the southern and northern parts of the country. The measure might give a boost to the generation of alternative energy along the Barents Sea

The measure will also decrease northern Norway’s dependency of power imports from Finland, Russia and Sweden.

Member of the Norwegian parliament committee one energy and environment, Mr. Erling Sande, confirms to NRK Television that new power cables between the north and south Norway will be built, and that the new cables will facilitate the generation of new power in the North.

The price on electric power in northern Norway has this spring been several times higher in the north than in the south. While major amounts of snow in southern mountains have given full capacities in southern hydro power plants, the small amounts in the north have resulted in power deficits.
