New Russian drilling rig up standing

The Zvezdochka shipyard in Severodvinsk, Arkhangelsk Oblast, has completed one of the most complicated technological parts with its “Arkticheskaya” jack-up floating drilling rig.

The lower parts the platform support pillars were submerged to 20 meter depths, on top of which the platform unit has been placed, a press release from the company reads.

The Arkticheskaya has been under construction for more than 10 years. It is not clear when construction will be completed.

The 88 meter long and 66 meter wide platform will be used primarily in the Barents and Pechora Seas. The rig can house 90 workers. Maximum drilling depths are 6500 meters.

The rig is built for the extreme weather conditions in the area, the shipyards informs in its website.
