Oil drilling stopped by immigration authorities
The 43 workers at the Energy Exerter drilling rig currently operating in the Russian part of the Barents Sea are trapped offshore as Russian immigration have blocked attempts to allow a replacement crew onto the rig.
The offshore workers, many believed to be Scots, remain stranded on the rig in the Russian far north. The Aberdeen-based owner of the rig, Northern Offshore, denied reports the crew had gone on strike due to safety concerns, BBC News reports.
-Our sole focus right now is keeping the guys comfortable and safe on board whilst doing what we can to get everyone home, General Director John Monks told the broadcaster.
