Petroluem Directorate buys fishermen

The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate is ready to pay fishermen generously to stay away from the Vesterålen waters outside northern Norway during upcoming seismic studies in the area.

-My impression is that the fishermen will say yes to the compensation so that the seismic studies can be conducted without interference […], leader of a local fishing association says to NRK. According to the broadcaster, the Petroleum Directorate will offer the fisheries full compensation for lost revenues following restricted access to the fishing fields. Until now, the fishing industry in the region has expressed major opposition to the seismic plans. Now, however, the money bonus seems to have silenced the protesters.
