StatoilHydro might buy Shtokman gas

The Norwegian energy major StatoilHydro might buy 25 percent of the gas from the Shtokman field in the Barents Sea, company leader Helge Lund said last week.

According to Reuters, Mr. Lund revealed the plans in the recent oil congress in Madrid. The amounts of gas bought by StatoilHydro will be decided on in 2009, Mr. Lund is reported to have said. StatoilHydro owns 24 percent of the Shtokman Development Company, the joint venture which will develop the huge project. The Norwegian company will along with partner Total and Gazprom in early fall 2009 agree on final conditions in the project.
