The biggest wind park in Europe
Regional authorities in Norrbotten, northern Sweden, have approved the construction of the biggest windmill park in Europe. The park planned in the municipality of Piteå will have more than 1100 windmills.
The county council in Norrbotten have approved the construction of 1101 windmills in a 10x50 km big area west of Piteå. The park will cost up to 55 billion SEK (5.15 billion EUR). The construction period will cover a ten year period, Sveriges Radio reports.
The park named Markbygden Vind AB will be the biggest in Europe.
It is owned 75 percent by Svevind Holding AB and 25 percent by Enercon – one of the four biggest wind power companies in the world, a press release from regional authorities reads.
