Viktor Zubkov appointed new head of Gazprom
First Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Zubkov was today appointed new board chairman of Russian energy major Gazprom.
With the appointment, Mr. Zubkov becomes one of the most powerful men in Russian oil and gas industry.
Viktor Zubkov was prime minister before Vladimir Putin took over the post in early May this year. Since then he has served as first deputy prime minister in Putin’s government
The new board chairman has long been expected to take over the Gazprom post, formerly held by President Dmitry Medvedev. Zubkov has work experiences from Monchegorsk were he in the 1970s worked in the Severonickel plant.
