Windmill park for Shtokman village

Murmansk Governor Yuri Yevdokimov is firmly determined to construct a windmill park outside Teriberka, the spot chosen as the main hub for the development of the Shtokman gas field. This week, the governor was in the Netherlands to meet with the windmill provider.

Regional authorities in Murmansk have over the last year on several occasions expressed interest in the wind energy project. The windmill park is planned near Teriberka, in the close vicinity of the Shtokman project facilities.

The project park will produce up to 200 MWh, Regnum reports.

In Amsterdam, Mr. Yevdokimov met with representatives of the company Windlife Energy, as well as other wind energy companies. He also went to the Haag, where he met with Dutch Deputy Minister of Economic Affairs Frank Heemskerk and to Groningen, the Dutch friendship city of Murmansk.

From the Dutch side, enthusiasm has been shown with the project. Managing director of Windlife Energy, Paul Logchies, says to Renewableenergy.com that “the conditions at this onshore site [Teriberka] are comparable to those encountered at offshore wind farms in the North Sea. The onshore installation costs are only about 40 percent of those for offshore turbines. This consideration, together with the Russian government’s grants policy, makes this a very attractive investment for us.”
