Bad security at drilling rig

The Norwegian Petroleum Safety Authority has discovered insufficient security in the operations conducted by drilling rig “Polar Pioneer” in the Barents Sea.

The inspections revealed insufficient preparedness plans and consequence studies, NRK reports.

-This is a serious case, Authority spokesman Ole-Johan Faret says to the broadcaster. –The Barents Sea is defined as a vulnerable area and it is especially important that the ones operating in the area are conscious about their responsibilities and do the necessary analysis and studies to reduce risks […], he adds.

The Petroleum Safety Authority in the period 27 March – 25 May 2008 conducted an audit of StatoilHydro and Transocean Offshore Ltd (Transocean). The audit concerned planning and implementation of exploration drilling of well 7123/4-1S in the Barents Sea with the mobile drilling facility Polar Pioneer, the Authority reports in a press release.
