Oil company funds Barents sea bed studies
The ENI oil company has granted 13 million NOK for a study on the ecosystem outside the northern Norwegian coast.
The coastal-near waters in the Barents Sea remain little studied by researchers. The Tromsø-based marine research institute Akvaplan Niva will conduct the study. -Effects of human activities can be easily tracked on the sea bottom, project coordinator Sabine Cochrane says to newspaper Dagens Næringsliv. –Now we are making a detailed study which is to increase our understanding of the fauna on the sea bottom in the southern part of the Barents Sea, she adds. Oil company ENI is the operator company of the “Goliat” oil project in the Barents Sea. The company is currently in the process of deciding development model for the project.
