Putin wants International Polar Decade
Russia is satisfied with the way the International Polar Year was completed and now proposes the launch of an International Polar Decade, Putin said in a speech Thursday.
Speaking to an audience of experts on Arctic affairs, Prime Minister Vlaidmir Putin today proposed that an International Polar Decade is launched.
-In order to give impuls to scientific cooperation in the Arctic, Russia is presenting the initiative to hold an International Polar Decade, Putin said in today’s conference “The Arctic – Territory of Dialogue” in Moscow.
-A central part of this initiative could be studies of global climate change and several other problems, somehow linked with the Arctic, Putin elaborated, a transcript of the speech reads.
