240,000 tourists visited Arkhangelsk

Up to 240,000 tourists annually visit Arkhangelsk Oblast, regional authorities say. Tourism development is now becoming one of the main development priorities for the region.

Deputy chairman of the regional Committee on International Relations and Tourism Development, Valerii Shumilov says to Regnum that regional investments in tourism over the last two years have increased with 150 percent to an annual 1,24 billion RUB.

He adds that tourism is one of the main development priorities for the region.

Also countryside tourism is on the rise. According to Mr. Shumilov, village people are now about to understand that hospitality to tourists can pay off. New village guesthouses are now opening regularly, he says.

A major part of the tourists visiting Arkhangelsk Oblast go to the islands of Solovki in the White Sea.
