34 percent more visas in November

The Norwegian General Consulate in Murmansk issues more and more multiple-entry visas to Norway.

- We issued 34 percent more visas in November this year compared with November last year, says head of the visa department at the Norwegian General Consulate, Lars Georg Fordal to BarentsObserver.

If the trend continues in December, the General Consulate will issue around 17,000 visas in total for 2010.

57 percent of all visas issued last month were so-called Pomor visas, multiple entry visas to Norway for people living in Murmansk or Arkhangelsk region that can be issued without a prior invitation from a person or organization in Norway.

Also, more and more people registries their visa-applications online and therefore don’t have to line up in queue.

- Our experience is that more and more see the benefits of booking time and date to deliver the rest of the documents when they register their visa applications via the Internet, says Fordal.

- These applicants also get their applications processed two days faster than other applicants. In addition, they are automatically notified by SMS or e-mail when the application is processed. They do not have to call us or stand in the queue, explains Lars Georg Fordal.
