According to Deputy Head of the Department for Personnel in the Northern Fleet Commander Aleksandr Davydov, the large-scaled cutbacks that are planned in connection with reforms of the army and navy will probably not have such deep negative impacts on local communities as some politicians fear, web site B-port reports.
He believes that most of the dismissed, maybe up to 80 percent, plan to leave Murmansk Oblast. The main reason for this is lack of suitable civilian positions.
- The people who are now being dismissed are highly qualified officers and NCO’s in the age 40-50 years. Here in Murmansk they are offered jobs as fish fillet cutters, janitors or tile-setters.
