Aleksandr Donskoy got three years in jail
A court in Arkhangelsk has given ex-city mayor of Arkhangelsk, Aleksandr Donskoy, a three year suspended sentence. The politician was sentenced on charges of misuse of powers while being city mayor in the northern Russian town.
Mr. Donskoy has been in jail since August last years. He has been charged on four points, ranging from the falsification of his university diploma, to illegal business activities and of misuse of official powers. While have been aquitted in two of the cases, and having got a 70.000 RUB in a third case, Mr. Donskoy in the last of the four cases was sentenced to three years of jail. The court found the ex-mayor guilty of illegitimately having hired security staff to his office. A total of 3,94 million RUB was according to the prosecutors spent unjustly from the city budget. Aleksandr Donskoy himself says he is innocent and that the cases against him are initiated by region governor Nikolay Kiselyov.
