Alexander Stubb for EU Foreign Minister!

Foreign Minister Alexander Stubb should be Finland’s candidate for the post as EU Foreign Minister, the country’s Minister of Defence Jyri Häkämies proposes.

Mr. Häkämies’ proposal has however sparked a domestic political row. From before, Mr. Ville Itälä, a National Coalition MEP, has proposed Finland’s current Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn for the high EU post. This latter proposal has also won the support of Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen. Alexander Stubb was appointed Finnish Foreign Minister in April last year. He then came from the post as member of the European Parliament. Stubb successfully headed Finland’s chairmanship period in the OECD. He has also shown himself as a Russia-friendly diplomat, open for more liberal East-West traveling and trading conditions.
