Arkhangelsk airport gets reconstruction funding

Full reconstruction of the runway and terminal building with regional and European funding.

Increasing number of passengers into the already overcrowded terminal building has for years been the trademark of Arkhangelsk airport Talagi. Now, the European Union goes in with co-funding to boost the capacity and modernity of the largest airport hub in Barents Russia.

Passenger turnover at Arkhangelsk Talagi airport reached 650.000 in 2010.

Director of the airport, Vage Petrosyan said at a press-conference in Arkhangelsk on Monday that the regional government is going to allocate 15,5 million rubles (€400.000) for design documentation for the reconstruction, reports rbc.ru. Federal authorities will allocate 3,6 billion rubles (€9,3 million) for the reconstruction itself.

Another €2,35 million is granted by the European Union via the Kolarctic cross-border funding program, reports Barentsnova. The Kolarctic funding aims at developing transport infrastructure in the Barents Region and expansion of international cooperation in the region.
