Arkhangelsk Governor with support for mayor candidate

New Arkhangelsk Governor Ilya Mikhalchuk this week expressed support to Viktor Pavlenko, the acting city mayor of Arkhangelsk and one of the candidates in the upcoming mayor’s elections.

The governor subsequently asked Ernest Belokorovin and Sergey Moiseev, both of them members of the United Russia party, to withdraw their candidacies. Both of them obeyed and will be secured posts in the city and regional administration. Acting Mayor Viktor Pavlenko is supported by the “A Just Russia” party. Governor Mikhalchuk himself is a member of United Russia. -All the candidates in the elections have their skeletons in the closet, therefore it will be best to let the acting governor continue his work, Mr. Mikhailchuk said to the Pomor TV station, Vedomosti reports. According to polls, Mr. Belokorovin was until now the favourite to win the elections. On April 29, he scored 20 percent on the gallups, while Moiseev had 12 percent and Pavlenko 7.5 percent. Despite the governor’s support for Mr. Pavlenko, Mr. Belokorovin is not sure that the victory will be Pavlenko’s. -There are still others we shall count with, he maintains.
