Arkhangelsk-Shtokman cooperation agreement

Shtokman Development AG and the regional government in Arkhangelsk have signed an agreement on cooperation in the development of the Shtokman gas condensate field in the Barents Sea.

The Arkhangelsk administration is ready to establish a special ministry dedicated to work with issues concerning the Shtokman project.

According to the agreement, the parties will establish joint workings groups aimed at involving regional companies in the huge project and developing the region’s infrastructure and transport potential, web site Baltinfo.ru writes.

The agreement was signed in Arkhangelsk on Tuesday during a visit by Alexey Zagorovsky, Chief Executive Officer in Shtokman Development.

Governor of Arkhangelsk Oblast Ilya Mikhalchuk underlined that the development of the Shtokman Field is a strategic project for the region:

- Shtokman is the key economic project for the Arkhangelsk region. It is important for us to create comfortable working conditions for the project participants. We are ready to act in this direction, including the creation of an individual department or ministry that will deal exclusively with the project and create favorable conditions for its realization, he said in the meeting with Zagorovsky, Shtokman Development writes on its web page.

Arkhangelsk is planned to play an important role in the building process, the regional government writes on its web site. Much of the materials and equipment needed for the project will probably go by boat or planes through Arkhangelsk to Novaya Zemlya and form there out to the field.
