Barents Monitoring Murmansk 2011

The region, which prepares to become a thriving center for Russian Arctic developments, is unable to spur sustainable economic growth. In 2011, industrial production declined and consumer growth stagnated, the latest Barents Monitoring report confirms.

The highly industrialized and export-oriented economy of Murmansk in 2011 saw a 1,3 percent decline in industrial production, the report reads. The negative result was driven by a 3,1 percent downturn in regional mining, the key industrial sector in the region.
