Barents Sea on Norwegian-Finnish agenda
During his visit to Norwegian Arctic town of Kirkenes this week, the Finnish Minister of Foreign Trade and Development will discuss the Barents Sea, Russia and the EU Northern Dimension with his Norwegian counterparts.
Together with a major business and government delegation, Mr. Paavo Väyrynen will visit the northern Norwegian towns of Kirkenes and Tromsø, a press release from the Finnish government reads. The Norwegian hosts will be Norwegian Minister of Industry, Dag Terje Andersen and Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.
During the visit, the minister and his delegation will address issues related to the promotion of investments in the region. The ministers will also seek to deepen the two countries’ cooperation within the Northern Dimension. High on the agenda will be opportunities for joint operations in Northwest Russia and the Barents Region.
It is expected that major focus will be on energy issues.
The visit comes as Finland with increasing interest follows industrial developments along the Norwegian-Russian Barents Sea.
Mr. Väyrynen and his delegation will be in northern Norway in the period 8-10 April.
