Barents warship may hunt pirates

The Russian Northern fleet’s destroyer Admiral Levchenko may join the anti-piracy mission off Somalia.

Normally the big warship is based in Severomorsk and patrols the Barents Sea and north Atlantic.

Before starting patrolling the Somali coast Admiral Levchenko will take part in the joint Indian – Russian naval drill in the Arabian Sea starting next week, reports RIA Novosti.

The officials from the Northern fleet have not yet confirmed the vessels participation in pirate hunting off the Somali coast.

The destroyer is part of a Northern Fleet task force, currently on a tour-of-duty in the Mediterranean, led by the Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft carrier.
