Bulava launch on Thursday
The Typhoon class nuclear submarine ”Dmitry Donskoy” has left port for a test launch from the White Sea of Russia’s ill-fated ballistic missile Bulava.
The launch will take place on October 7, a source in the administration of the northern Russian town of Severodvinsk says to RIA Novosti.
This year’s first Bulava test launch has been postponed several times. The test launch program was put on hold after a failed launch on December 9, 2009, which was caused by a defective engine nozzle. People in large areas of Northern Norway became witnesses to the missile exploding in the sky. Out of 13 test launches so far, 7 have failed.
It has earlier been said that there will be three test launches by the end of the year.
Dmitry Donskoy recently turned thirty years, and is the oldest nuclear powered submarines in the Northern Fleet still in operation.
