Captain of ”Nemanskii” goes to jail

The captain of the pirate trawler “Nemanskii” will have to spend 36 days in jail, after he refused to pay to 50 000 NOK fine imposed on him by Norwegian authorities.

The trawler captain late at night on the 31 December turned off all lights and quietly sailed off from the Norwegian port of Kirkenes. Norwegian authorities had strictly forbidden any sailing with the vessel after a number of irregularities.

One week later, the Norwegian Coast Guard rescued the vessel which was drifting without engine power and with one sailor seriously injured on board.
