Children disappearing in Arkhangelsk
Only in 2007 more than 150 children disappeared in Arkhangelsk Oblast. The total number of children reported missing in the northwest Russian region now amount to more than 700.
A growing number of children are reported missing in Arkhangelsk, regional authorities confirmed in a recent round table conference. Head of the Arkhangelsk Prosecutor department for youth and under-aged, Yelena Dunaeva, confirms that the number of missing children from 2006 to 2007 increased from 567 to 716. In addition, the there is a growing number of under-aged youth running away from their homes and from institutions. In the course of 2007, 680 youngsters were reported missing, nine of whom are still not found. Social troubles in families remain the main reason for the problem. According to Regnum, 700 families were deprived their parents rights in 2007. Arkhangelsk Oblast has a population of about 1,3 million.
