Climate change, financial crisis on Swedish EU agenda
The problems of climate change, the Baltics, enlargement and the financial crisis will be key priorities in the upcoming Sweden’s EU chairmanship period. Yesterday, Minister of EU Affairs Cecilia Malmstrøm presented the country’s EU logo.
The logo is to embody the government’s ambitions and goals for the chairmanship period, like the climate change issue, the Baltic Sea and the continued enlargement of the EU, Ms. Malmstrøm told journalists in yesterday’s presentation of the Swedish EU logo and web domene.
Also the unfolding financial crisis is set to dominate Stockholm’s EU agenda in the second half of 2009.
Still, climate change will be one of the Swedish EU presidency’s priorities. With the Copenhagen UN conference on climate change taking place in December, the Swedish presidency is due to begin preparations for a new global agreement on emissions reduction one of its key priorities, Lisa Dahlen Jonsson, press officer with the Swedish permanent representation to the EU, told EUobserver.com.
