Close race ahead of Murmansk vote

Current city mayor Mikhail Savchenko is in the lead ahead of the March 1 Murmansk mayor elections, an opinion poll shows. However, former deputy governor Sergey Subbotin is catching up.

The poll conducted by the Northwest Centre of Sociology, Marketing and Communication shows that 19,4 percent of respondents support Mr. Savchenko, while 18,9 percent support Mr. Subbotin. That is closer race than the previous week, when 24,5 percent supported Savchenko and 16,9 percent supported Subbotin.

The election is scheduled for 1 March.

While Mikhail Savchenko is the United Russia Party’s official candidate in the election, former deputy governor Subbotin is running as an independent.

1191 people participated in the poll, Komsomolskaya Pravda reports.
