Considering oil refinery
A study is underway on a justification of investment for construction of an oil refinery in Teriberka on the Kola Peninsula.
Gazprom has initiated the study to examining the opportunities to organize oil refining for oil from the Shtokman and Prirazlomnoye fields in the Barents Sea. Teriberka is the chosen location for the processing and LNG-plant for the natural gas from the Shtokman field.
Until now, the plan for the Prirazlomnoye field has been to deliver crude oil directly by tankers to Rotterdam.
The Murmansk based Sevmorneftegaz is revising the technical scheme for development of the Prirazlomnoye field.
We want to create that kind of systemic structure for oil production and refining, the company’s general director Aleksandr Mandel, said to Interfax after presenting the ideas at the Energy Exchange conference in Moscow on Thursday.
It was also said the Prirazlomnoye infrastructure will be used to develop other fields in the area of Shtokman. Geological surveys and test-drilling shows the eastern Barents Sea is very promising for the petroleum industry.
