Cooperation on energy efficiency
Russia aims to increase energy efficiency with at least 40 percent within 2020 and wants a closer cooperation with Norway on this field.
The Russian Minister of Energy Sergey Shmatko and Norwegian Minister of Oil and Energy Terje Riis-Johansen met in Moscow last week to discuss the situation on the international oil and gas market in times of economical crisis. Riis-Johansen characterizes the meetings as “highly constructive” and says that Norway has strengthened its energy cooperation with Russia even further, the ministry’s web site reads.
The Russian side is particularly interested in cooperation on energy efficiency. Russian energy consumption is high and the country’s authorities think it can be possible to reduce consumption with up to 45 percent by implementing measures for energy efficiency.
- We are very interested in Norway’s modern energy technology. Norwegian companies have unique experience on this field and such cooperation is highly attractive for Russia, Shmatko said according to Rbc.ru.
As BarentsObserver has reported, other questions that were discussed were Norwegian companies’ participation in the Shtokman project and mutual interests and obligations as the biggest producers and exporters of gas to Europe.
