Crisis makes Gazprom look towards domestic suppliers
The world economic crisis will make Gazprom and its subsidiaries look towards domestic suppliers of services and equipment, the energy major confirmed in a meeting Wednesday.
The Gazprom Board of Directors yesterday decided that Russian suppliers of services and equipment will be given first priority in all new contracts. The decision is part of Gazprom’s contribution to the Russian government’s anti-crisis package, the company reports in a press release.
The decision applies to Gazprom and all its subsidiaries.
The Gaprom management is also commissioned to present a status report on supplier relations to the company board in the course of the first quarter of 2010.
While Russian companies are competitive in a number of fields within pipeline manufacture and production of land-based petroleum technology, the industry lags far behind foreign competitors in a field like offshore technology.
