Cross-border relations to stay unaffected by crisis

Cooperation between Murmansk Oblast and Finland will not be affected by the unfolding international financial crisis, Murmansk Governor Yuri Yevdokimov and Finnish General Consul Olli Perheentupa underlined in a meeting this week.

Both sides admitted that the financial turmoil is having its toll on their economies but still stressed that cross-border relations will not be affected, a press release from the Murmansk administration reads.

One of the top priority projects in relations between Murmansk and Finland is the establishment of a joint technology park in the Russian border town of Alakurtti. The two sides also have major plans for cross-border tourism development.

The Finnish delegation to Murmansk was headed by General Consul to Sankt Petersburg Olli Perheentupa. Also the head of country’s consular unit in Murmansk was present.
