Dramatic drop in budget revenues
The Northwest Russian federal subjects in 2009 saw their budget revenues plummet with up to 40 percent.
Worst off among the regions was Vologda Oblast which saw a 41 percent decrease in revenues. Kaliningrad Oblast was the second worst with 36,8 percent, while Arkhangelsk Oblast was the region with the third biggest drop in revenues. Arkhangelsk got its revenues cut by 29,8 percent, from 46.5 billion RUB to 32,6 billion RUB. Also in the Komi Republic, the Republic of Karelia and Murmansk Oblast, the drop was significant with respectively 22,7 percent, 14,7 percent and 12 percent, Karelinform.ru reports with reference to the journal Finans. The situation was another one in the oil-rich Nenets Autonomous Okrug. There, revenues increased from 5.3 billion RUB to 5.7 billion RUB.
