Election time in times of crisis
The unfolding economic crisis in Russia will not affect people’s preferences in the March 1 elections, RIA Novosti argues.
The upcoming elections on March 1 will be the first major vote in Russia after the unfolding of the economic crisis. The elections will put popular confidence in the ruling United Russia party to the test. However, news agency RIA Novosti argues that the elections will not effect the way Russians vote. The financial crisis and subsequent economic downturn has worsened life condition for hundred thousands of Russians. Still, we will not see a protest election, RIA Novosti argues. Different level elections are to be held in 79 Russian federal subjects on March 1. In Murmansk, elections will be held on on city mayor. In Arkhangelsk, a new regional parliament is to be elected.
