EU: Russia might enter WTO in August

Russia might become member of the World Trade Organisation before August this year, EU’s Trade Commissioner Peter Mandelson said today.

Mr. Mandelson spoke to the press after a meeting with Russian Minister of Finance, Aleksey Kudrin. -I support the quickest possible entry of Russia into the WTO, because this will give both parts benefits in a number of areas, among them in trade, transport, new technologies, Mr. Mandelson said, Prime-Tass reports. -This is necessary for economic growth in Russia and for the country’s integration in the world economy, the commissioner said. He added that Russia need to continue to protect foreign investments. -Russia is playing a major role as neighbour to the EU, Mr. Mandelson stressed. A number of meetings between Mr. Mandelson and Mr. Kudrin will be held the next two weeks in order to solve remaining trade issues, Prime-Tass reports.
